Leak Protection

Over years of experience and testing, we have incorporated existing ways, and developed new ways, of delivering leak proof installation.

A Complex Roofing/Gutter/Soffit/Fascia Protection

(Components are described in order of installation after tearing away the existing roof and gutters.)

A - Optional flashing "A" is designed to permit aluminum fascia "H" installation with allowance for its expansions and contractions to avoid buckling at high temperatures.
    B
    - Protecting layer such as Grace® Ice and Water Shield® overlaps aluminum fascia which protects the roof edge against water backup. It also keeps water from getting in between the wood fascia and roofing plywood, and between the aluminum fascia through gutter nail.
    C
    - Roofing starter protects against leaks through first row of roofing shingle seams.
    D
    - Actual layer of roofing shingles.
    E
    - Gutter is made and installed the way so the back side of the gutter is higher than the front side. When the water level rises (except for ice buildup), the water will overflow the gutter without getting behind it.
    F
    - Gutter flashing prevents rain water from getting behind the gutter.
    G
    - Soffit installed with slight pitch toward outside. This is secondary leak protection. Should moisture get on the soffit, it will be carried away from the house wall.
    H
    - The last piece installed, the actual aluminum fascia covers the edge of soffit, and is overlapped by "The first aluminum flashing."

In case an optional flashing "A" is chosen not to be installed, the installation steps are: B, C, D, G, H, E and F.

Leak Protection at the Connections of: Fascia, Siding, Roofing, End of Gutter

A - Fascia overlaps siding on gables.
    B
    - Ice and Water Shield® covers part of wall under siding and part of roof under shingles.
    C
    - Step Flashing at the connection of roofing with wall.
    D
    - Siding J Channel catches water draining off of wall and carries it to gutter.
    E
    - Piece of Flashing installed under lowest step flashing directs all water from roof/wall connection to gutter. Keeps water from draining into wall.

General Leak Protection of Siding Walls

Do not count on siding that it will protect your walls from leaking. It does not provide "water proof" protection. Entire walls including all their connections with windows, doors and other obstacles must be water proofed before siding is installed.

Windows and Doors

The best water proof protection practice is not to count on window or door that it will not leak by itself. Create a backup water removal system under windows or doors to ensure leak protection in case window or door starts leaking. Such leaks happen quite often as window or door ages.

Extra Heavy Duty Gutter Corners

Outside gutter corner is the weakest point of seamless gutters. The gutter seal can break due to gutter contractions during low temperatures. Overlapped back and bottom on both gutters prevents that from happening.
